The story of Baby Tundra

Over the past few days, so many of you have followed along as we fought for the tiniest puppy to ever come through our doors. His name was Tundra. Tundra was just a few days old when he came into our care. He had already experienced more than any newborn ever should. His siblings had passed away before we could reach them, and this tiny boy was left fighting for his own life.
From the moment he arrived, we knew his odds were stacked against him.
But at Woof & Willow, we don't decide whether a life is "worth saving" based on the chances. We fight because every puppy deserves someone willing to try.
We immediately began around-the-clock neonatal care. Every two to three hours, day and night, he was fed, weighed, stimulated, monitored, and kept warm in a temperature-controlled incubator. Under the guidance of our veterinary team, we administered fluids, medications, oxygen therapy, and every supportive treatment available to give his fragile little body the best chance possible.
There were moments that gave us hope.
After feedings, he would curl up and fall asleep with a full belly. He would wiggle around looking for the perfect spot to get comfortable. He let out tiny little cries when we helped him go to the bathroom. Those small milestones meant everything to us.
Then things began to change.
He slowly stopped wanting to eat. His color faded. He became weaker with each passing hour. We adjusted his care, spoke with our veterinary team, and continued doing everything we could, hoping he would turn the corner.
Sometimes, despite every ounce of love, every sleepless night, every medication, and every prayer... their little bodies simply aren't strong enough.
Tundra passed away surrounded by warmth, comfort, and love. He never had to be alone. As heartbreaking as his story is, I don't regret a single minute spent fighting for him. If another tiny newborn arrived at my door tomorrow needing the same care, I would do it all over again. Because that's what rescue is.
It isn't only celebrating adoptions and happy endings. It's staying awake through the night. It's celebrating tiny victories that most people would never notice. It's making impossible decisions. It's crying over puppies who were loved for only a few days but changed your heart forever.
Tundra reminded us why neonatal rescue matters.
These babies are unbelievably fragile. They can decline in hours, even when they're receiving the very best care. But every one of them deserves the chance to be warm, safe, comfortable, and deeply loved for however much time they have.
While our hearts heal, we're left with the cost of the emergency care that gave Tundra every opportunity to survive. Those expenses—veterinary care, medications, fluids, formula, oxygen support, and specialized neonatal supplies—allow us to say "yes" when the next fragile puppy needs us.
If you're able, we've created Tundra's Legacy Fund to help replenish those resources so that another newborn can receive the same chance Tundra did.
Whether you're able to donate, share his story, or simply keep our rescue in your thoughts, thank you.
Thank you for grieving with us.
Thank you for celebrating with us.
Thank you for believing that even the smallest lives matter.
Tundra's life was far too short, but he was loved beyond measure. We promise his little legacy will live on in every fragile puppy we help next.
With love and gratitude,
