Lost or Found an Animal?
Losing or finding a dog can be overwhelming, emotional, and stressful. Our hearts are with you during these situations, and we want to help guide you toward the fastest and safest path to reunification.
If You Have Lost a Dog
If your dog is missing, we strongly encourage you to first contact and report the loss to:
-
Your local humane society or animal shelter
-
Local animal control agencies
-
Veterinary clinics in your area
-
Neighborhood and community social media groups
Most stray dogs are brought to local shelters or animal control, and filing a lost report with these organizations significantly increases the chances of being reunited with your pet.
If You Have Found a Dog
If you have found a stray dog, the first step should always be to contact:
-
Local animal control
-
Your local humane society or shelter
These organizations are equipped to scan for microchips, legally hold stray animals, and follow proper stray-hold protocols required by state and local regulations. This process gives the dog’s owner the best chance of being found.
Our Role
Woof & Willow Puppy Rescue is a small, foster-based rescue focused on saving puppies and dogs at risk within shelters. We do not operate as an animal control facility, a stray-hold facility, or a lost-and-found intake center.
For this reason, we ask that Woof & Willow Puppy Rescue be contacted only after all appropriate local resources have been exhausted. In limited cases, and when space and safety allow, we may be able to offer guidance or assistance—but we cannot guarantee intake or placement.
Why This Matters
Following proper lost-and-found procedures helps protect:
-
The dog, by ensuring access to trained professionals and medical care
-
The original owner, by honoring legal stray-hold requirements
-
Rescues and fosters, by preventing unsafe or unmanageable situations
Thank you for understanding our role and for doing your part to help lost dogs find their way home safely.
If you believe a dog is in immediate danger, please get in touch with local animal control or emergency services right away.
If it is after hours, we can provide you with supplies to hold the animal you found until animal control or a local Humane Society opens.
